Dreamweaver Tutorials
Creating Frames in Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver allows you to view and edit all of the documents within
a frameset. This allows you see
how the framed pages will look in a browser as you work with them. Some aspects
of this can be confusing at first .
Remember that each frame displays a separate document. Even
if the documents are empty, you must save them all before you can preview
them. To down load the files needed for these Dreamweaver tutorials, open
the working files folder on CD #7, please note before starting work it is
a good idea to set up a local site.
Let's get started with these Dreamweaver Tutorials
first let us create the frameset and specify a file to appear in each
frame.
Save every file that’s going to be displayed in a frame first.
Set the properties for each frame and for the frameset. Create a name for each
of the frame regions, setting scrolling and non-scrolling options, and more.
( see the get started with frames Dreamweaver Tutorials on training CD 6 if
you are unsure on this )
Ensure to set the Target for all your
links so that the linked content appears in the correct frame .
Creating framesets
There are 3 ways to create framesets in Dreamweaver, you can design it yourself,
or you can select from several predefined framesets or you can hand code
it. Choosing a predefined frameset automatically sets up all the framesets
and
frames
needed
to create
the layout and is the easiest way to create a frames-based layout quickly.
You can insert a predefined frameset only in the Document window’s
Design view. While being to hand code a frameset in HTML is a good idea,
you may be better letting Dreamweaver help you, once you have a understanding
of how to create a frame then knowledge of hand coding will be useful.
Creating a predefined frameset in Dreamweaver
Predefined framesets make it easy for you to select the type of frameset you
want , however you can change it later, it's a good idea to do it by hand
at least to start with.
The Insert bar allows you to create a frameset
and display the current document in one of the new frames; the New Document
dialog creates a frameset.
When you apply a frameset using the Insert bar, Dreamweaver automatically
sets up the frameset to display the current document in one of the frames.
The colored area of the icon represents the current document,
and the white areas represent
frames that will display other pages.
To create a predefined frameset
In the Frames category of the Insert bar, click the icon for a predefined frameset.
Choose a frameset from the Insert > Frames submenu.
To create a new empty predefined frameset:
Choose File > New.
In the New Document dialog box, select the Framesets category.
